There’s something special about the time just before the sun sets. The sky fills with warm colors, the light softens, and everything seems to slow down for a moment. This shot, titled Cadman Plaza Sunset, captures the Brooklyn Bridge silhouetted against a glowing sky in Dumbo, Brooklyn. It’s a peaceful reminder that after a long day, there’s always the promise of a new beginning.
Taking this photo was all about timing. The golden hour—those precious moments right before sunset—creates a natural warmth that’s perfect for sunset photography. The bridge’s silhouette stands out beautifully against the soft colors of the fading light. In this quiet scene, you can almost feel the calm and look forward to the day ahead.
For this shot, I used my Sony camera paired with a 24-70mm F2.8 lens. My aperture was set at f/8 to keep both the foreground and background sharp. I set my ISO at 100 for a clean, crisp image, and used a shutter speed of 1/125s to catch the fading light without motion blur. These settings helped me capture the rich details in the sky and the strong lines of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Brooklyn, especially Dumbo, offers the perfect mix of cityscape and nature. It’s one of those spots where every corner feels like a new opportunity for creative exploration. As a photographer, I’m always drawn to places where light and shadows play off one another in interesting ways, and this evening in Dumbo didn’t disappoint.
