A serene scene of seagulls perched on old wooden posts by the water, captured by street photographer Ramon Trotman using an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II with a 150-300mm telephoto lens.

As a street photographer, I’m always on the lookout for those unexpected, candid moments that beautifully capture the essence of life. Sometimes, you stumble upon a scene so serene that it takes your breath away. That’s exactly what happened when I captured this image of seagulls perched on weathered wooden posts, peacefully dotting the water’s surface.

A Day in the Life of a Street Photographer

Armed with my trusty Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and a 150-300mm telephoto lens, I set out with the intention of capturing the vibrant street life. The day was perfect for photography – clear skies, a gentle breeze, and the kind of light that makes everything look just a bit more magical.

As I wandered through the bustling streets, my eyes caught a glimpse of something tranquil at the edge of the urban chaos. A flock of seagulls, gracefully perched on old wooden posts, looked like they were enjoying a moment of zen. I knew I had to capture this scene. It’s moments like these that remind me why I fell in love with street photography in the first place.

Capturing the Moment

For this shot, I used my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II paired with a 150-300mm telephoto lens. The long focal length allowed me to get up close and personal with the seagulls without disturbing them. Here are the camera settings I used:

  • ISO: 100

  • Aperture: f/5.6

  • Shutter Speed: 1/500s

These settings helped me freeze the moment and keep both the birds and the wooden posts in sharp focus. The telephoto lens was perfect for this scene, allowing me to capture the intricate details and the peaceful ambiance of the setting.

The Magic of Street Photography

One of the things I love most about street photography is its unpredictability. You never know what you’ll encounter, and that’s what makes every outing an adventure. On this particular day, I had set out with a different vision in mind, but the serene scene by the water completely captivated me. It’s this spontaneity that keeps me passionate about my work.

Street photography also teaches you to be adaptable. You learn to embrace the unexpected and find beauty in the everyday. It’s not just about the technical aspects of photography; it’s about having an eye for those fleeting moments that tell a story.

Sharing My Journey

I love sharing my journey and the stories behind my images with all of you. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of being a photographer.
